Location

We are situated in the Cradle of Humankind due North of Krugersdorp on the Kromdraai Road, the D540, 45 minutes from both Johannesburg Central & Pretoria.

Our internal Reserve roads are all well maintained dirt or unpaved roads and normally fit to host any vehicle on all the main roads.

 

Accommodation

Our accommodation comprises of Stone Chalets or Wooden Log Cabins. The Chalets operates fully on gas & 12 volt lights and the Log Cabins boasts DSTV, Jacuzzi and a braai area on the deck.

All accommodation are 4 sleeper units. The units are self catering and fully equipped. All accommodation can only be acquired on a pre-booking basis – Terms & Conditions apply.

 

Guided Game Drives

Game Drives are provided for in our open Game Drive vehicles which can take 10 or 20 people, depending on the group size. Game drives depart at 09h00, 12h00 and 15h00 with an occasional 17h00 drive.

The game drive take between 1.5 and 2 hours long – at a maximum. Payment for a minimum of 2 people are required to commence with a game drive. Terms & Conditions Apply.

 

 

Wildlife Centre

We have a wide variety of animals in our Wildlife Centre who are ambassadors of their species to the public, many of which either were rescued, rejected, hand-reared and/or are being rehabilitated. 

 

Restaurants

The Reserve boasts a number of restaurants, each offering a different experience. The Boma Restaurant is situated at the Day Visitors area and offers an a-la-carte menu. The Thatch Café offers a range of family-friendly meals for diners on the deck overlooking the Cradle Bike Park. The Neck & Deck has an extensive menu including breakfast, light meals, mains and sundowners and features a cellar stocked with fine wines and champagnes. 

The Boma Restaurant, Thatch Café and Neck & Deck Restaurant are fully licenced. Please note that alcohol availability is subject to lockdown regulations.

 

Bothongo WonderCave

The WonderCave is a pristine World Heritage Site in the midst of the Cradle of Humankind and boasts formations enough to take your breath away. The WonderCave has its own refreshments kiosk to be enjoyed with breathtaking views of the Cradle of Humankind. The WonderCave is open from 09h00 until 15h00 with a new tour every two hours. Tour start times are 09h00, 11h00, 13h00, and 15h00! Bookings are essential. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before each tour time. Click here to book.

 

Wildlife Species

The Reserve boasts more than 100 species of mammals, reptiles and birds. See four of the big five as well as African wild dogs, cheetah, tigers, zebras, roan antelope, sable antelope and many more. Find out more about all the animals you can see at the Reserve here.

 

Day Visitor Area

The Reserve has a day visitor’s area with picnic & braai facilities for your convenience. 

Bring your own picnic basket and refreshments and enjoy a day in the lovely Highveld weather but make sure you are an early bird in order to choose the best spot. The day visitor area also has a small swimming pool as well as ablution facilities and some areas are wheelchair friendly.

Day visitors are more than welcome to visit and picnic or braai at the Nature Reserve without additional charge.

 

Venue Hire

The Boma restaurant has fixed catering menus for functions and conferences. You may also request your own menu to be quoted on. We do have other venues to choose from should you be interested in a year-end function or the like.

 

Other Attractions

The Reserve boasts with one of a few successful Vulture Hide’s where we feed vulture’s and other scavengers. For the 4×4 enthusiast we have a few 4×4 routes to test your skills as well as a secluded 4×4 braai area with only ablution facilities and braai areas. We have an African garden inter-leading from the Wildlife Centre with cycads and indigenous plant species.
